Sport shorts – Hannah get GB call.
Swindon Flames player selected for World Championships in Los Angeles
Hannah Archer from West Swindon has been playing inline hockey since the age of ten with Swindon Flames. Now she’s been selected for the second time to represent Great Britain in the inline hockey World Championships taking place in Los Angeles in July.
Explaining the game Hannah, below, said: “There are four players plus a goalie per team on the rink at any one time, but the squad has 16 members in total. New players have joined recently and they’ve settled in really well; training has been great.”
Two years ago she played in the World Championships in Italy, where Team GB came sixth overall. However she believes the squad is stronger for the tournament in California. “This year it’s bigger than ever and we’ve got a good chance of coming home with a medal.
But, as with most minority sports, Hannah has to pay for all her kit and travelling expenses. She said: “It’s a struggle to raise the money myself as I’m currently doing a voluntary placement for a year as part of my degree course at Bournemouth University. But it’s a great honour to represent the country and I can’t wait to get out there.”
