Swindon Supermarine drew 1-1 against local rivals Cirencester Town at South Marston’s Webbs Wood Stadium.

It’s raining!

In a match punctuated by moonsoon showers both sides struggled to keep control of the ball and within the first 20 minutes Marine’s Jon Beeden and Dave Bampton left the field, Beeden on a stretcher, after injuries inflicted by their own players. Even the ref Dave Ricketts required attention from the physio after being felled by the ball.

Supermarine’s Manager Dave Webb was unhappy with his side’s defence because they conceded a late goal to draw 1-1.

Matty Horsell’s goal on 76 minutes looked to have given Marine all three points but Cirencester skipper Matt Sysum had other ideas and header home with two minutes left to earn his side a well earned point.

Niggling challenges which often threatened to boil over, and the monsoon conditions did not help the match flow and with the departure of Bampton and Beeden after almost ten minutes of treatment meant the first half was extended by about 12 minutes.

Both sides struggled to keep hold of the ball as driving rain continued to fall at the Webbs Wood Stadium, and Marine’s cause was not helped by injuries to Jon Beedon and Dave Bampton in the first half, which forced the experienced duo off the field.

After the break, Tom Cole’s attempt went wide for Supermarine  and Sam Collier’s header on the Marine goal  went just close. Josh Parsons continued to cause the Centurions side problems, and when he broke free on the edge of the area he laid the ball off to Horsell, who placed it into the bottom corner of net.

Cirencester came in search of an equaliser, and were inches away when Scott Griffin saw his attempt go over from a Collier cross. marine’s stopper Kauppinen tipped Jamie Reid’s effort round the post The resulting corner saw visiting skipper Sysum rise above the Marine defence to head home. The visitors threw everything forward in search of the 3 points.  Tom Cole stood firm to head a James Mortimer-Jones’ blast over the bar.
