The new boys of the football league made the short trip across the Severn and up the M4 for a pre-season match at Swindon Supermarine.

Well not quite new; In 1920 they were founder members of the then new Third Division and even reached the dizzy heights quarter finals of the UEFA Cup in 1981 after winning the Welsh Cup.

Relegated out of the leagues in 1988 they went out of business but reformed to play in much lower leagues.

So a reformed Newport County flew in to take on a full strength Supermarine side.
The Welshmen went away with a 2-1 win but Marine put up a fight.
