Flames stop Wildcats
Swindon Wildcats saw their impressive 10 game winning streak come to an eventual end, after falling the wrong side of a 3-1 scoreline against the Guildford Flames.
A highly contested first period soon bought chances for both sides, however it would be Swindon who would find the night’s first goal. Several attempts on net would eventually lead to import Henri Sandvik connecting on a rebound and beating a screened James Hadfield between the pipes to give the hosts the lead.
A scoreless second period meant for a tight final third and within 4 minutes the Flames then found a reply. A quick counter attack would see the veteran David Longstaff supply puck in front of bet, before Marcus Kristoffersson would tap the puck in. With momentum gathered Guildford then went about a second, this time with David Savage circling toward net and beating netminder Stevie Lyle low, for a 2-1 game.
With just over a minute remaining Swindon then looked to the extra man with the netminder pulled, however a Flames clearance and the bounce of the puck then saw Kristoffersson earn his second of the game with an empty net goal. Despite eventually outshooting the Flames 43 to 28, the ‘Cats would have to settle for a 3-1 scoreline and ultimately see Guildford take the win this night.
An away victory means the ‘Cats will be looking to get back to winning ways on Sunday, when they travel to Chelmsford in their first cup fixture of 2015.
