Roaming Tigers bitten by Wildcats
Swindon Wildcats undoubtedly played out their home performance of the season, after shutting out the league leading Telford Tigers in a 4-0 game.
The night began well for the home side who despite being shorthanded at the half way mark of the first period, would break the scoring after a spell of Telford chances. Some quick thinking by defenceman Stevie Whitfield would see the puck launched up and across ice for team mate Aaron Nell to control and release a rapid shot over the shoulder of netminder Tom Murdy.
Within minutes that lead was then doubled, as ‘Cats imports Henri Sandvik and Tomas Malasinski would link up to see Malasinksi himself then find the goal via the crossbar for Swindon’s second.
A even start to the middle period saw a good battle on the ice however when ‘Cats forward Adam Harding threw a puck toward net, a redirect from Sandvik would then see the Finn turn from playmaker to goal scorer.
Moments on and three then became four as the import duo teamed up once again, this time with Malasinski scoring from a tight angle off the back of the netminder for a 4-0 game.
A fourth for the home side bought about a swap in net for the Tigers and the introduction of Sam Gospel between the pipes.
With Swindon holding a solid lead and Telford now forced to increase offence, both sides would develop chances from here however after forty minutes, the ‘Cats would take in a convincing 4-0 lead.
A hotly contested third period would see increased pressure on home netminder Stevie Lyle but with Swindon holding their composure, shots on net soon came for the hosts to even the action out. Despite facing a final 51 shots against them, a team effort up and down the ice would eventually give the Swindon Wildcats an impressive 4-0 shutout over the league leaders for an important 2 points.
